About
Dr. Michel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in adult joint reconstruction. A native Austinite and graduate of Westwood High School, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University before completing his medical degree at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine. He went on to complete his residency at The University of Florida and Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, followed by a fellowship in Adult Joint Reconstruction at the Scripps Institute in La Jolla, California.
Dr. Michel’s care philosophy focuses on understanding each patient’s goals and helping them return to the activities that bring them joy. He takes a conservative approach to treatment, exhausting all nonoperative options before considering surgery. He believes that an educated patient is a happy patient and works hard to set clear expectations throughout the care process. When surgery is necessary, Dr. Michel strives to use minimally invasive techniques to allow his patients the fastest recovery possible. He also remains intimately involved with his patients during their recovery, another something that makes him truly unique.
Dr. Michel is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Diplomate of the Board. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association. He has contributed to national clinical practice guidelines for the surgical management of knee osteoarthritis via the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and has been recognized as one of Austin’s Top Doctors by Austin Monthly for five consecutive years.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Michel enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter and son. Together, they love engaging in all kinds of outdoor activities. Dr. Michel also enjoys trying new restaurants and playing golf.
